VET BILL HELP APPEAL

Appeal to help pay our current vet bill for 3 dogs that have recently come into our care.

They often say things come along in three’s and that’s certainly what happened in the MSPCA recently when we got three dogs into our shelter all needing veterinary care. The MSPCA very rarely ask the public to help with our costs and only make an appeal if absolutely necessary.  However, the following three dogs were an unforeseen expense that we had not expected.

Ronaldo

This handsome Labrador was hit by a car in Tydavnet area, we took him to the vet clinic where an x-ray showed his back left leg was broken and needed an operation and cast. We named him Ronaldo – he was not microchipped and had no ID tag – his owner has not come forward.  Ronaldo is doing very well and is now in his third week at the vet clinic.
Approx. cost to date is €450 - €500.

Rynee

This lovely little girl #144 (stray) was on the ‘Put to Sleep’ list at the Council Pound.  The MSPCA collected her and took her directly to the vet clinic as we had been advised that she had an injury to her left leg.  Her x-ray showed her injury was serious and required a 4 ½ hour operation to insert a metal plate secured by six screws. We have named her Rynee and she also is doing well but still in vet care.
Rynee’s operation cost is approx. €500

Fabio

Meet Fabio a wonderful Collie who came into our care as a voluntary surrender. He had an injury to his back leg and was dragging his front paw.  After his vet check and x-ray it was discovered Fabio had a breakage in his pelvis which required staying in the vets for over a week and then another four weeks cage rest at the shelter. Thankfully, Fabio is back to good health again and ready for his new home.
Approx. cost:  €200

MICHELLE MCHUGH DONATES GIFT BASKET

GIFT BASKET FROM MICHELLE MCHUGH RECEIVED ON 30TH JUNE 2016
What a fantastic surprise today to receive this absolutely beautiful gift basket & card with a donation from Michelle McHugh (Keegan's Newsagents in Carrickmacross. She also included treats for the humans at the shelter as well! Thanks also to Mr. Ronaghan (Ronaghan's Opticians in Carrickmacross & Monaghan) for delivering this gift basket to the shelter today!
Her lovely card said: Hi Guys, I've just read in the Northern Standard the very sad story of the little puppies found in the river...it breaks my heart. But by "God's" grace they were found... and thankfully there are places like the MSPCA to take them and find their forever homes. Keep up the great work girls. A little donation for MSPCA & a goodie box for puppies and dogs in your care (a little something for you guys too). God Bless, Michelle & Philip, Effie, Bella, Jess, Blue and Gizmo

5 PUPS DUMPED IN RIVER

These pups were found dumped into a river on Monday, 20th June near Derrygorry Forest Park (near the Tyrone border). How anyone could commit this atrocity when there are rescues, local pounds and other means to re-home unwanted pups is beyond words....

A man out walking heard them crying and discovered 4 of them trying to climb up the river bank and the smallest one still in the water. He waded into the river and rescued her and the other 4 babies!! We received a call at 6 pm this evening from a very caring woman who helped him carry them back to her house and she brought them into the shelter this evening. These Collie mix pups are only about 5 weeks old! If it weren’t for Tina and Martin coming to their rescue when they did, these babies surely would not have survived very long in this isolated area. Kudos to Martin and Tina – wonderful and caring people who saved these gorgeous and very healthy puppies.

BLOSSOM IN CHERRY BLOSSOMS! (UPDATE BY ADOPTER)

Blossom in the Cherry Blossoms!

Blossom was dumped at our shelter in a box along with her 3 siblings on the 14 October 2015 at only 6 weeks old.  Blossom’s 3 litter mates were re-homed, but poor Blossom was so timid and scared and was in our care for 6 months before she finally found a couple that would give her a new and wonderful home on the 17 May 2016! This special, caring and kind couple who were willing to give her a new life and also work on her fears and phobias have sent us this wonderful photo and article written by them for us to share.

“Local husband and wife with an already 14 year old dog, rescued 12 years ago, and a cat taken in from the wild have taken Blossom into their heart and their home.  The couple did not see the previous feature in the paper, but called to the MSPCA to have a look at Blossom as they had seen her on the shelter’s website.

As Blossom was not used to life beyond the shelter, her world outside was new and she barked at her reflection in the oven, the noise of the washing machine scared her, and she was even unsure of the clothes drying on the neighbour’s line.  It has been a challenging few weeks but will be worthwhile in the end says new owner.  It is all about patience and time and internet research.  Also with the help of Dog Trainer, Elaine Power (07904649591-NI), Blossom is learning socialization skills and good behaviour.”

Finally on BLOSSOM – she is to me:  Beautiful, Lively, Obedient, Smart, Sweet, Outstanding, Memorable!

Blossoms owner states that “owning a dog is good company, and walking keeps both owner and dog fit.  In my experience, rescue dogs make great pets. Please visit your local shelters if you are looking for a new family canine or feline to welcome into your home and life!”

Advice issued by local council is as follows:  Getting a dog is a long-term commitment involving time and money and researching what breed best suits your lifestyle.  Dogs need yearly vaccinations and worm and flea treatment (every 2-3 months).  Dogs must be microchipped by the vet and a licence obtained from your local council. Microchip details must be kept up to date to ensure your dog is re-united with you if found straying.  Dogs must wear an I.D. tag, be kept under control, not stray or cause a nuisance by excessive barking.  Dog fouling should always be picked up by the owner as not only is it illegal not to do so, in which fines can be imposed, it is smelly, messy and harmful to those who come into contact with it.

CHILDRENS' DONATION - JUNE 2016

What a lovely surprise the MSPCA got Sunday past when Mia, Alexa Flynn and Sophie Mallon arrived with a big basket of toys and treats for the dogs and cats in our care, they also brought a beautiful cat bed and large dog bed to help keep our animals cosy. Mia, Sophie and their friend Crania Curran (not present in photo) bought all these gifts from their confirmation money and also gave a donation of € 150. We are overwhelmed with your generosity and on behalf of all our furry friends at the shelter we say THANK YOU VERY MUCH. The Flynn family adopted a wonderful dog called Juno from us several years ago and she is now a much loved family member.

DENICE CORBETT DONATION

Denice Corbett visited the MSPCA on 9th March 2016 along with her MSPCA rescue dog, Rauri, and Susie Q (her other rescue dog) to present our shelter with a donation of £ 610!  Denice re-homed Rauri (Saluki mix male) in March 2012 and he and Susie Q are inseparable. Denice Corbett was a nurse for 38 years and retired in 2002 and started Ballysaggart Environmental Group in 2005. The Balysaggart Environmental Group was a way to educate the local children about the fascinating local biodiversity and to protect the Ballysaggart Lough for future generations. To this end, Denice ran awareness days at the Lough every year and invited RSPB conservation volunteers, local biodiversity officers, and other agencies to participate using interactive methods of teaching. She also gave biodiversity talks in local primary schools and rescued waterfowl when and if necessary. Sincere thanks to Denice for the donation and well done to her for her all her tremendous work!

BUDDY "THE AGILITY CHAMP"

Special Story about a very special dog (BUDDY)! Buddy (aka Gulliver) was re-homed in March 2008. He was rescued from the Pound as a juvenile pup. His adopter, Lorraine, has trained and competed with Buddy in Agility Competitions over the years. He has represented Northern Ireland 4 times at Crufts in the Inter-regional obedience team event!

This recent photo of Buddy jumping was taken by Simon Rodgers at his most recent competition. Lorraine sent us this latest news about Buddy -- "I'm so proud of my Buddy boy! We both have been selected to represent Northern Ireland Team in the World Agility Open in May 2016 in the 525 height! A special thanks to those who have believed in us and encouraged us over the last few months Laura McAleese and Ronnie, and of course to Curt Mullan for teaching us his moves!"

When I asked Lorraine is there is anything else she wanted to add about the "agility star" she stated: "The only other thing is what a wonderful best friend he is!" Lorraine sent the photo of Buddy resting after a long walk -- well done to Buddy and his wonderful owner, Lorraine.

CHRISTMAS DOG WALK

EMY LAKE DOG WALK - 27TH DECEMBER

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!

THE MSPCA CELEBRATES THEIR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

The MSPCA has reached a milestone (10 years of success) in helping unwanted, neglected or abandoned animals. The Emyvale shelter opened in 2005 and has expanded and made many improvements over the years. While our work does come with many ups and downs (sometimes tears and heartache); the greatest joy is the happiness we see when our shelter animals find a suitable and loving home. The caring adopters who have chosen to "rescue" one of our companion animals are the ones we applaud. THANK YOU all for adopting our shelter dogs/puppies & cats/kittens and for spreading the word about how great it is to rescue your family pet from a shelter!

We would like to personally thank all our past and present wonderful volunteers for their dedication, compassion, hard work and desire to assist the animals and our team. From our dog walkers, to our fantastic photographers & graphic designers who also provide our wonderful informational leaflets etc. and to every one of you that come along and help out at our fundraisers - a HUGE THANK YOU XXXX Also, to all the wonderful vets and vet nurses who provide support, treatment and care to our the animals as well as to the people in the community we refer to them - what a wonderful team to have on board -- they do a terrific job and are to be commended!!

Here is to many more milestones to come!!!! The MSPCA would like to take this opportunity to praise and thank all of you that have given us your on-going support and caring about the animals in our care!! Kudos to all of you who have given us donations through our fundraisers, or donating at our shelter (either monetary or with food, blankets, treats, salmon oil, toys, cat beds, etc.)

The MSPCA are now teamed up with Royal Canin and are feeding all of our rescue dogs and cats Royal Canin food. While we appreciated donations of dry dog and cat food in the past, all of of pets are on the Royal Canin diet. We are still very welcome and would appreciated receiving moist dog/cat food, dog treats, toys, collars, leads, cat toys, kitty litter -- always needed.

MSPCA 10TH ANNIVERSARY

THE MSPCA CELEBRATES THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OPENING OF THE RESCUE SHELTER FOR DOGS AND CATS IN EMYVALE!

Huge thanks and appreciation to Sinead McEneaney who presented us with this gorgeous and very tasty cake as well as a special Champagne filled balloon on Sunday, 6th of September to commemorate our shelter opening 10 years ago!! Further thanks to all that helped us and the animals over those many years. Our success is due to all the kind and caring folks who adopted our rescue animals. Also, tremendous accolodades to the members of the public who found stray animals and brought them into our care and/or into the vets for treatment prior to coming into our shelter/cattery.

TIMMY - DUMPED AND TIED!

TIMMY'S STORY 12/8/15 - ACT OF CRUELTY

Today at 10:30 am we received a phone call from a gentleman informing us he had come across a dog stuck on a gate in his field tangled in wire and he could not manage to get it freed. On arrival, we discovered this wee dog was not tangled up in wire but deliberately TIED with cable wire around his neck to the bottom of the cattle gate so tight he could not get up and was gasping for air, their was a big stick placed in front of this wee boy to camouflage him. Timmy is a very lucky dog that this gentleman went back to check his cattle this morning after moving them yesterday evening and stumbled upon him.

We are deeply appalled that someone would do this to a helpless animal and believe this was the right thing to do?? There is absolutely no need for this to happen when there is help out there, we are here 7 days a week and always on the end of the phone if you are unable to keep your animal(s) PLEASE ring us (047)70512 and arrange for it to come into our care.
IF ANY ONE HAS ANY INFORMATION AS TO HOW THIS WEE DOG, TIMMY, ENDED UP IN THIS APPALLING SITUATION PLEASE RING US.

DOGS TRUST IRELAND

DOGS TRUST IRELAND COLLECTING MSPCA DOGS!

The MSPCA is now working with DogsTrust (Ireland) to help our rescue dogs find new homes in the UK. Thanks very much to the DogsTrust team for their help. This morning, 7 of our shelter dogs travelled to the DogsTrust holding centre in Leitrim. They will then be heading over to their UK Re-Homing Centres. The need for this help from DogsTrust highlights the lack of homes in Ireland for all the dogs that come into rescues and pounds. Too many dogs and not enough good homes in Ireland -- a true shame!

We've got a New Number!

047 - 70512

PLEASE RING ON THIS NUMBER BETWEEN 9.30am AND 5.00pm

AFTER HOURS PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE AND WE WILL RETURN YOUR CALL

BOBBY BAWN

BOBBY BAWN - 5 YEAR OLD SHETLAND (DUMPED/ABANDONED)

This is Bobby Bawn and here is his story. He is approx. 5 years old and a real pet who had been in great discomfort (see photo). The MSPCA received an email about an abandoned/dumped Shetland pony in the Bawn area that a caring person had reported to the Irish Horse Welfare Trust on the 18th May. We went out to the location on 19th May and took photos and spoke to the Dept. of Agriculture and our local Dept. of Environment. Dermot Forde from the Dept. of Agriculture went to the location on 21st of May and arranged for an "emergency seizure notice" to be placed the following day. We arranged for a farrier to trim Bobby Bawns hooves prior to transport and removal on Saturday, 23rd. Thanks very much to Claire Owens at the Trust for her advice and guidance. Thanks goodness Sinead was able to find him a rescue place at Hungry Horse Rescue in Co. Longford. We have learned that Bobby Bawn now has a home in Germany along with another pony that was collected the same day! Thanks goes to Tony Caldwell for transport and care and also to Breen (Farrier).

MONAGHAN MATTER - IRISH TV

MONAGHAN MATTERS (IRISH TV) FEATURING THE MSPCA SHELTER ON 25TH JUNE!

Aishling & Kieron from Irish TV visited the shelter today to film a segment for Monaghan Matters. The program is scheduled to air on 25th June. We were absolutely delighted to meet and show them around and talk about how the MSPCA's shelter all began. We also chatted about our other work: animal welfare investigation, educational talks to young people, and organising re-homings of our rescue dogs outside of Ireland with other rescue groups (DogsTrust and Hundar Utan Hem in Sweden).

HUNDAR UTAN HEM VISIT

The MSPCA was delighted to welcome the team from Hundar Utan Hem (Sweden) to our shelter on Friday, 29th May. They got to meet all our gang (both dogs and cats) and even managed to walk a few dogs between the rain showers. Hundar Utan Hem help our rescues dogs find fabulous homes in Sweden! What a wonderful team -- thanks very much for all your help and support.

BELFAST PROTEST AGAINST PUPPY FARM

This isn't easy to watch but it is the reality for many dogs who end up in puppy farms. Unless they are rescued, their only way out is death, which is preferable to their life in these prisons.

Please, please make the effort to come to Belfast City Hall for just 1 hour this coming Saturday. The public rally is from 11.30am - 12.30pm. We need our elected representatives to do more to protect these animals.

This is where puppies in pet stores come from. Step inside the puppy mill industry for just one minute. Find out the truth:http://www.peta.org/issues/compan...

EARLY WARNING SYSTEM

EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

The above scheme is in operation in Co. Monaghan since 2005 and was implemented to alert actual or potential animal welfare problems on farms, particularly from early Winter through to late Spring. Three main groups involved in the early intervention are, Monaghan SPCA, Department of Agriculture and the Irish Farmers Association and, if required, the Garda Siochana under the protection of Animals Act. We would ask the public to be vigilant and if they feel there is cause for concern to please contact the MSPCA, confidentiality is assured at all times.
The main causes of concern at this time of the year are lack of feed and shelter or maybe an animal which has sustained an injury which is not being attended to.

THESE NEGLECTED ANIMALS NEED YOUR VOICE. SO PLEASE, IF WORRIED LIFT THE PHONE - CONTACT LORI O'NEILL ON 086-8262-956 OR SINEAD MCKENNA ON 086-8262-885. THANKS FOR CARING!

ST. LOUIS PRESENTATION

The MSPCA would like to extend our sincere Thanks to Rang Ailbhe, St. Louis Convent who sold our ‘ALL FOR ANIMALS’ calendars and raised a fantastic €265. Thank you to Shannon Kelly who called to the shelter on Sunday, 11th January to present the money to the MSPCA on behalf of her class – Well done Girls!
Thank you to Adrian Fitzgerald, their form teacher, who allowed the girls to sell the calendars, it is very much appreciated.

INTERDENOMINATIONAL CAROL SERVICE

The members of the St. Patrick's Ladies Group selected 2 charities to received the donations received from the Interdenominational Carol Service at St. Patrick's Church (Monaghan Town) on 16th December 2014. The evening was magical -- wonderful music from so many choirs and singers and the church was filled to capacity. Thanks so very much to all who gave so generously to the MSPCA and the Latch-On Project. Also, sincere appreciation to the Ladies Group for selecting the MSPCA as a recipient for the donations from their wonderful service.

LOUISE QUIGLEY DONATION

On the 7th January, we had a wonderful surprise! Louise Quigley visited the shelter with a donation for €100 that she raised through fundraising. Louise is a dog groomer in Clones and made up a lovely hamper and offered grooming vouchers. Sincere thanks from all of us at the MSPCA (including the dogs/pups, cats and kittens). What a kind, caring and thoughtful young lady! Thanks very much, Louise!

COOGAN CHRISTMAS DONATION

Heartfelt appreciation to Francie & Michelle Coogan who for the 2nd year accepted donations from those who visited the stunning and magical Holiday/Christmas display to help the MSPCA.
