About the MSPCA

The MSPCA strives to:

  • Bring an end to the unnecessary killing of companion animals.
  • Provide a safe haven for abused and abandoned animals.
  • Provide food, shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, and compassion to homeless animals.
  • Find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care.
  • And most importantly, bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets and every dog and cat can be guaranteed a loving home.

Please help us make this dream a reality!

Who We Are

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary in September 2015 of the opening of our Emyvale Shelter!!

Located in Killydonagh (outside Emyvale) the Monaghan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) has been serving the Monaghan area since 1996. We are a non-profit rescue shelter dedicated to saving unwanted, abandoned and abused dogs. We provide rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and adoption services in the Monaghan area. The MSPCA has received grant assistance from the Minister for Agriculture towards the cost of maintaining and developing our care and welfare services for animals.

The animals in our care come to us through no fault of their own. Most have been pulled from “death row” from the dog pound, some have been rescued from abusive situations, others come to us after they have lost their way home or their owners are unable to care for them. Our dedicated volunteers provide the love, care, and attention they deserve until a new caring home can be found.

Our shelter typically houses more than 25 dogs/puppies of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Some are purebred and some are mixed breeds—charming “mutts” who make wonderful companions (and often lead healthier lives than their purebred cousins). Our dogs are all spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for any other medical conditions.

Our cattery can house approx. 30-35 cats and kittens. Most of the cats/kittens come into our care as strays -- some of them are voluntary surrenders due to varying reasons (illness, relocating to premises that don't allow felines, etc.) All of the cats over 5-6 months are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and treated for parasites prior to re-homing. All kittens must be spayed/neutered when approx. 5-6 months old as stated in the Adoption Contract.

The MSPCA works to find qualified adoptive homes for all the animals in our care, while keeping the commitment to providing a safe and healthy haven for as long as may be necessary.
